Northern Water, Municipal Subdistrict Receive Financial Reporting Awards

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada awarded Northern Water and its Municipal Subdistrict both a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports for the fiscal year that ended on Sept. 30, 2023. Northern Water and the Municipal Subdistrict have earned this award annually since 1985, which is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

“This prestigious recognition is a testament to our dedication, expertise and unwavering commitment to excellence,” said Sander Blackburn, Director of Finance and Administration. “This achievement reflects the countless hours of hard work, attention to detail and adherence to best practices that our team has consistently demonstrated.”

Both Northern Water and the Municipal Subdistrict have grown in recent years with response to regional wildfires, construction of new environmental projects and Chimney Hollow Reservoir, issuance of new long-term debt instruments and contemporary needs of managing and maintaining a large water supply project in the Western United States.

Kristyn Unrein, Financial Services Department Manager, said, “I am extremely proud of the stories that the ACFRs tell, and the compliance they exhibit in accordance with the industry standards of the government finance field.”

The Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports are available on the Northern Water website.

The GFOA Certificate Program was established in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
