With the final full year of scheduled construction at Chimney Hollow in the rearview, many project components are finished or nearing completion.

Throughout the past two months, Poudre Valley REA completed the underground phase of work that brings power from County Road 18E to the on-site valve house.

Stantec’s Senior Principal Engineer Don Montgomery has a pivotal role in the success of Chimney Hollow Reservoir.

The site will be shut down from Dec. 24-Jan. 2 for the holidays. Crews will continue to work throughout the winter 24 hours a day, six days a week.

The link is now complete between Chimney Hollow Reservoir and the existing water-distribution infrastructure that will carry supplies to the project’s participating communities.  

The process, which took a little over three months, included installing the prefabricated steel walls and roof panels around the entire 120-by-120-foot building.  

Northern Water’s Municipal Subdistrict staff and key project contractors are making great progress on getting the Chimney Hollow Reservoir Project ready for operations in 2025.

As an Earthworks Project Manager for Barnard Construction, Jordan Hall oversees many of the key features of the Chimney Hollow construction project.

The $10 million Chimney Hollow saddle dam, 2.5 miles south of the main dam at the head of the valley, is slated for completion in December.
