The $10 million Chimney Hollow saddle dam, 2.5 miles south of the main dam at the head of the valley, is slated for completion in December. 

In October, crews began construction on the 40-foot-tall inlet/outlet tower located outside the tunnel on the right abutment of the dam.

As of early November, the walls that tie the spillway into the main dam are complete.

Descriptions such as "historic" and "momentous" filled the air as each speaker took to the podium at the Colorado River Connectivity Channel (CRCC) dedication ceremony.

Project experts give an update on the main dam at Chimney Hollow Reservoir, which is currently about 285 feet tall, just 65 feet shy of the ultimate 350-foot-tall height.

Federal, state and local officials joined leaders of the Northern Water and the Municipal Subdistrict on Oct. 15, 2024, to dedicate the Colorado River Connectivity Channel at Windy Gap Reservoir.

Together, more than 33 miles of grout holes were drilled at the rate of about one mile per month since the start of the grouting program in January 2021.

Chimney Hollow Reservoir, or at least a model of it, has been added to the Northern Water Interpretive Area just west of the headquarters building in Berthoud.

Stevens, the Northern Water communications specialist at Chimney Hollow, doesn’t lose sight of the magnitude of the project – or her role in conveying its progress to a large audience.
