Larimer County Publishes Chimney Hollow Open Space Management Plan

Larimer County officials have published the Chimney Hollow Open Space Adaptive Management Plan, a document that will guide recreation at the new reservoir and adjacent open space for years to come.

The plan will allow officials to adapt to changing demands by recreation users and conditions at the open space just west of the reservoir. In the next five years, Larimer County Department of Natural Resources staff will collect ecological data at the site, develop management zones within the 1,800 acres of the open space, identify infrastructure needed for those management zones and consider the environmental education opportunities at the site.

County officials used surveys and public meetings to gather information about what residents wanted at the new open space, and they used this information to develop a plan that would be consistent with the intergovernmental agreements between the Municipal Subdistrict and Larimer County.

Included in the plan are opportunities for hiking and cycling at the open space, wakeless water recreation at the reservoir, and future connections of trails to Carter Lake to the south and east. Camping will not be included in the day-use activities at the site.

The plan is available at the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources website.
