Ultrasonic Flow Meter Installed in Windy Gap Pipeline
Northern Water's Collection Systems and Instrumentation Controls and Electrical Engineering crew recently installed a new ultrasonic flow meter inside the Windy Gap Pipeline. From the beginning of the Windy Gap Project, the discharge flow of Windy Gap water into Lake Granby was based on the original salt-velocity-area methods. However, technology has greatly improved since the mid 1980s and development and commitments of the Windy Gap Firming Project require flow measurement with greater accuracy.
The new ultrasonic flowmeter will accurately measure flow within plus or minus 1 percent of actual flow. The flowmeter will assist our operators with having an accurate reading of the water being delivered through the Windy Gap Pipeline and provide better accounting for Windy Gap participants.
