While the saddle dam is much smaller than its counterpart two-and-a-half miles away at the north end of the reservoir (the 350-foot-tall main dam), it still serves a significant purpose, as it increases the project’s storage capacity by about 30 percent.
Crews will continue sub-surface sealing work into winter and spring of 2024, as they look to wrap-up grouting on the main dam. In addition to being a much larger foundation, the main dam also sits at the lower end of the reservoir. To help stand up to that additional pressure of water pushing downhill, the main dam grout curtain runs as deep as 230 feet below the foundation in areas. Grouting on the main dam is about 85 percent complete.
