Final Two Valves Arrive on Site

Chimney Hollow Reservoir crews celebrated on site on Monday, Feb. 24, as the final two valves arrived from Germany. Workers will install the two valves inside the valve house by the end of March.

The valve house structure is complete, most pipes and valves have been installed, and the plumbing and HVAC work is complete. Crews are working on electrical and fiber-optic cable installation inside the valve house and will soon start painting/coating the pipes and installing septic system, doors, security features, flooring, tile, lighting and bathroom fixtures.

Construction of the valve house is on track to wrap up in April, when dry testing (testing all operations without water) is scheduled to begin. Once all dry testing is complete, crews will test all operations with water, also known as wet testing, which will take place in May and June. It is anticipated that reservoir filling will begin in July.

Northern Water’s Instrumentation Control and Electrical Engineering (ICEE) crew is on site regularly (read more below) and is working hand in hand with the contractor to get all aspects ready for testing. Chimney Hollow Reservoir will be operated and maintained by Northern Water.
