Video Highlights Asphalt-Core Testing Prior to Placement Along Main Dam
A new 3-minute video featuring Northern Water's Joe Donnelly and Stantec's Don Montgomery discusses the testing that has been taking place recently in advance of asphalt-core construction along the Chimney Hollow Reservoir main dam this fall.
The video also covers how engineers and designers came to the decision that an asphalt-core dam was the best option for this project, as well as how asphalt-core technology, thanks to its unique characteristics, has performed exceptionally well during the 60-plus years it has been in use.
Once completed, Chimney Hollow Reservoir will be one of about 200 asphalt-core dams worldwide, and only the second built in the United States. At about 350 feet tall, it will be by far the tallest asphalt-core dam in the country.
