Open Lands and Recreation Opportunities
In just a few years, Chimney Hollow Reservoir will be another star in the constellation of recreational sites in Larimer County.
The land where Chimney Hollow Reservoir sits was purchased through a cooperative effort between the Northern Water Subdistrict and Larimer County, with the intent of creating a flat-water recreation space at the reservoir and open lands access above the waterline in the forested area west of the reservoir.
On July 28, project managers offered an overview of construction activities to the county’s Open Lands and Parks Advisory boards to talk about the project’s progress and discuss areas where the cooperation is already paying dividends. That includes installation of a bridge over the Flatiron Penstocks, part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, and grading for future parking areas and roads for recreation users.
Larimer County officials estimate that master planning for Chimney Hollow’s recreation offerings will begin in 2024.
