Windy Gap Pipeline Inspection Complete

Northern Water recently completed an inspection of the Windy Gap pipeline to ensure the water making its way to Chimney Hollow Reservoir beginning next year will flow efficiently.

During the inspections, crews conducted an electromagnetic scan of the inside of the pipeline, which determined any needed repairs. No repairs are expected, though a final report is expected in a few weeks. Safety teams also took part in the inspection to provide rope support as some sections of the pipeline are steep enough that ropes are required to climb safely in and out.

“Windy Gap Reservoir was drained prior to the construction of the new Colorado River Connectivity Channel, which made the inspection much easier to complete,” said Northern Water Senior Project Manager Landon Shaw. Crews will refill the smaller Windy Gap Reservoir starting next spring in preparation for the first water flows in Chimney Hollow early next summer.
