Equipment Spotlight: 777
The largest piece of equipment on site is a 100-ton haul truck, commonly called a 777 (triple seven). Each tire is 9 feet in diameter and costs $15,000 to replace.
During full production, crews will need to average dumping a 100-ton load of rockfill for the main dam every two minutes, 20 hours a day for two-and-a-half years in order to stay on schedule. Dedicated heavy haul truck roads have a 35 miles per hour speed limit, and, as you can imagine, the site will be extremely busy in just a few months. Safety is always the top priority and will become even more important when 17 100-ton haul trucks begin carrying full loads from the on-site quarry to the main dam.
