Valve House Excavation Work Started

Excavation work for the future valve house at Chimney Hollow Reservoir is well underway as crews have removed approximately 72,000 cubic yards of material out of a planned 100,000 cubic yards. The valve house is four-stories tall; however, the majority of the building is located below ground. The excavation is approximately 30 feet below original ground, and crews have started placing leveling concrete beneath the valve house foundation.

Pressures and flows between the C-BT Project and Chimney Hollow systems will be controlled in the valve house. The value house is designed to safely operate and control the flow rates and pressures between Chimney Hollow Reservoir and the C-BT Project’s Pinewood Reservoir, Flatiron Reservoir and Carter Lake.

Although work began at the end of 2022, the valve house is a very complex structure and will not be completed until April 2025, shortly before the entire project is scheduled to wrap up.
